While the acquisition of Friendfeed by Facebook has been the big news in the tech world lately, there was also some news out of Google this week, about their newest development, Google Caffeine.
Caffeine, according to Google, “is the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions.” What this means is that the infrastructure that indexes websites and determines search results will run faster, index farther, and provide better search results. So how will these changes affect us?
First off, Caffeine will not noticeably affect Google’s User Interface. Results will still be displayed the same way, the site will have the same organization, and for the average person, the release of Caffeine has no significance on their use of Google.
But advertisers, SEO experts, and anyone whose business involves search engine results and rankings is taking an interest in this new development. Google is constantly tweaking their algorithm, but if this is a big enough change that Google felt it necessary to allow public testing of Caffeine then it could mean bigger changes in how sites are indexed and displayed as results. Hopefully, faster indexing will mean new websites and videos appearing faster in search results, and more comprehensive search results. More likely, Caffeine won’t signify a big change for anyone except for the people who work directly with Google’s infrastructure.

Viral video has become a part of our culture- whether it’s a funny video that never meant to go viral (like Tay Zonday’s ‘Chocolate Rain‘) or awesome promotional videos by forward thinking businesses (like Blendtec’s ‘Will It Blend‘ series), viral video allows us to share in entertainment that is free to watch and open for anyone to try and make their own.
That said, videos like Zonday’s are much more rare than videos produced and marketed by professionals, like Blendtec’s campaign or Samsung’s recent ‘HD Camera Trick’ video. This may seem counter-intuitive to a lot of people, who see viral video as a purely organic process, but that’s not the case. The process of creating and distributing a viral video is much more complicated than most people think, the same way growing a plant is more complicated than simply dropping a seed out your window.
Some of the techniques behind making a video go viral are obvious- you want to distribute your video out to as big of an audience initially, so that those people will begin sharing your video. Other techniques are less obvious, like small changes you can make to your video to increase its chance to go viral. The real key behind making a viral video for your company is to go with professionals- like the internet marketing professionals at Video Army. We have the experience and know the tools, techniques, and strategies behind making a video go viral, and we’re ready to launch your viral campaign.
